and get them to consider the matter. I hope you will make what effort you can to induce them to send their children; but if you do not succeed, and cannot gather at least twenty pupils, I would not advise you to continue the school after this month. Please report on this blank, at the close of the month.

Miss:

Please report your school on enclosed blank, and forward it to this office at the [[space]] this month.

If the church and school trustees cannot settle their trouble, and the people will not send their children, we shall have to transfer you to another place. But I hope you will make all efforts to restore harmony, and think you had better call a meeting - try to get all the people together, and make them decide whether they will continue their school or not. Tell them we shall not be able to send them another teacher if we have to withdraw you, and that they ought to consider the matter well before they let you go.

Very Respectfully, Yours,

Colonel:

I have just written instructions for Miss [[underlined]] Thomas [[/underlined]] to go to Williamsport, and will locate [[underlined]] Fry [[/underlined]] in a day or two. We have plenty of schools where teachers are needed, but like to be sure the people are all ready before sending them.

You have now in Maryland as near as I can calculate thirty seven (37) teachers, including Miss [[underlined]] Thomas [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] Allen [[/underlined]] for Pomonkey, but he has not yet reported. Mr. [[underlined]] Kimball [[/underlined]] arranged to have Miss [[underlined]] H. E. Fletcher [[/underlined]] go to Emmittsburg on the 1st of Nov. which makes 38. But Mrs. [[underlined]] Leech, [[/underlined]] at Great Mills thinks she will have to close this month, as her number of pupils is very small, and then I am not sure about Miss [[underlined]] Johnson [[/underlined]] who went to Union Bridge, as to whether she went to Parker's Creek, as I advised her or returned home.
