Dear Sir:

Can you furnish us with a few more teachers for Maryland? We have located about the same number this season that we have in the field last year, perhaps a few more, but there are still many school houses in the State vacant for want of teachers. Out of the number there are twelve or fifteen places which we are very anxious to supply, places where the colored people have good school accommodations and large schools can be gathered, and where the people are making urgent requests for teachers. We have already exhausted most of the Societies on which we depend for teachers, and hope you will aid us as much as possible.

Very Respectfully, Yours,
D. G. Swain,

Miss:

Please report your school on enclosed blank for the time you taught at Hancock, and send it to me without delay. How soon will the school building be ready for you at Hancock? If you are sure they will have it fitted up within a short time, and you want to return you can do so. If not we can send you to a good school at Clear Spring, where the people are all ready for a teacher. The place is near Hagerstown: not so far as Hancock. Please write me immediately.
