Dear Sir:

Can you give me the name of one of the trustees of the colored school at Fairfield, or any man in the place who takes an interest in the school and would answer a letter if addressed? We instructed a teacher named [[underlined]] Geo. Payne [[/underlined]] to go there last month, but can get no word from him. We also wrote to one of the school trustees at Milestown, more than a month ago, offering to send them a teacher on certain conditions, but have received no reply. If you can give us any information you will greatly oblige.

Very Respectfully, Yours,
D. G. Swain,
Bvt. Maj. U.S.A. A.D.C. and Act. Supt. Ed.

Madame:

We can not pay teacher's salaries unless we have their reports made out in regular form. Please report your school on enclosed blank, and state the day you commenced and the day you closed, and give the number of days you taught. We will then refer it to the Society that employed you and pay you what they are willing to allow.

Very Respectfully, Yours,
D. G. Swain,
