Dear Sir:

Mr. [[underlined]] James Le Count, [[/underlined]] who teaches a public colored school near Freedmen's Hospital, Washington County, reports sixty three (63) pupils, and expects the number to be increased. Dear Sir:

We send you herewith teachers' pay account for November. Also enclose list of teachers whom you have paid, with amounts, as we have them in our books, taken from your letters. The account is made out according to this, but Miss [[underlined]] Phenia Crisfield [[/underlined]] writes that she has received only twenty dollars instead of forty, or rather that is what we understand from her letter. If she is correct, and there is a mistake on your part, the Check should be increased to the amount of $20.00.

Very Respectfully, Yours,
D. G. Swain,
Bvt. Maj. U.S.A. A.D.C. and Act. Supt. Education.
