Rev E P Smith,
    Dear Sir,
The two schools at Freedmans Village are crowded, and many scholars have to be turned away. Genl Howard's order about reducing the number there, has not been
[[abandoned?]] but we are getting there way more slowly than was intended. There is another room where a primary school could be conducted temporarily & good could thus be done. If you can furnish three teachers for a few months, I think it would be a good plan. Mrs Potter would like to stay a little longer & the two colored teachers would make the desired three, if you think best. This is only very temporary
            Very respectfully
            John Kimball
            Supt of Schools
