Washington D C.
April 17th 1867.

Rev E. P Smith.

Dear Sir

We want to give notice that the Normal School will open on the 1st day of May. And by making the notice extensive, get a large number of students. Are we safe in thus doing. Will you have the teacher on hand. I think we can help out in the salary if it is necessary. I should think it not but to engage Mr Williams or whoever you send. for later than September. This is Gnl Howard's idea.

Very respectfully
John Kimball
Supt of Schools
