Dear Sir,

Your letter of April 6th was duly received, and day before yesterday, a beautiful copy of Worcester's Dictionary came to hand, for which very valuable present please accept my sincere thanks.  I have long wanted this book, and now its glad possessor, I shall find daily use for it, & thus have a daily reminder of your kindness.

I have carefully examined Hillard's series of Readers, and find them to be better than I had supposed & I supposed they were excellent.  I have no doubt but they are the best Readers of the [[underlined]] kind [/underlined]] in the country.  I do prefer Wilson's series, but if teachers and scholars cannot be interested in them I should say, by all means use Hillard's.  The selections are beautiful. I have not
