Washington D C.
Aug 2' 1867.

Friend Klinberg,
I learn that Mr Bowen & Co think it not best to buy your Building on 19th St, of this he has informed you.

I have asked the General to buy it for homes for the Colored people, but he does not think best. I think the American Baptist H M Society would do well to buy. Dr Backus is their Secretary, New York City. Their Superintendent here is now away. Upon his return I will try to induce him to purchase, if you still want to sell. I am sorry this matter gives you so much trouble. The property will increase in value (the land) and I think you could cut up the large home & make rooms for families so that it would pay you well, & do much good.

Very respectfully
John Kimball
