In all (besides Key West).... 8 companies

A rough military road should be marked along the new Boundary as early as practicable.
The commanding officer in Florida should be within ready communication with the citizens of the state as well as with the troops and it would therefore be advisable to keep the Hd. Qts. at Tampa Bay.

Sir,

I have the honor to acknowledge your letter of the 7th in relation to the white boy supposed to have been abducted by the Indians about Aug. 6th from Mr Gene C. Tuniness' in this state
The day after my last communication (Aug 6) I left for Ft. Myers to examine the Indians on the subject & returned last night.
I am satisfied that this Chief knew nothing of it, for during my stay at Caloosa Hatchee, the missing delegate ( Hetatoochee) came in, bringing with him his sister - [[?]] & their children & grand children - 11 in all.
He had been in the nation since June 26. and as his life was often threatened, & great opposition was made to the removal of his relations, he is much embittered & he would have been pleased to report any thing [[?amiss]] on the part of the (Florida Indians) Seminoles. Yet he declared that heard no mention of the boy - nor had the chief any communication with the outlaws while he was in the nation. (of any moment).

Bowlegs, while asserting his entire opinion, pledged himself need to deliver up all concerned as soon as their guilt could be rendered evident to us,and he promised to exert himself in ascertaining the facts in the case

I shall collect what evidence I can from the settlers - for the stories are now very contradictory - and report as early as possible.

As soon as I have good reason to believe that the Indians took or killed the boy, I shall rise[[?]] all of [[? Teho]] Emathla's band that I can & demand the rest from the chiefs, but until I can find such evidence I may doubt the guilt of the Indians.

While the Seminoles acknowledge their responsibility for this band, they do not desire to shield them, and desire us to capture them.
I shall forward the small party of Indian tribes by the delegate Holatochee, to NOrleans by [[?]]

T. for a [[?quarter]])

Lieut. Hudson goes in charge & I have to request that he (or some one else) may be ord to conduct them to their new homes - also that the War Dept. may be ord to furnish transportation ec. ec.

I transfer to Lieut. Hudson $200= to enable him to hire transportation in Ark. & to meet any extraordinary expenses that may occur. John Philip is useless as an Interpreter & as he worked to go our and the Indians sent in for him, I do not desire him to return, and have so informed him
