Tampa Bay Florida
February 6 1854

Hon J. Davis Secy War

Sir, I have communications from the Indians up to the 32 inst: but have no news of movement to report.

The delegates have all been kindly received and are visiting about to make known the propositions of the govt: to all the Fla Seminols

No excitement [[?]] on the frontier, and if the recommendation submitted to the Dept on Jany 24 should be adopted, I doubt not that the frontier will soon advance peaceably to Ch. Harbor

Very resplly

Colonel:

I shall send the Indian Delegation and such few seminoles as will accompany them on their way home to Arkansas in April.

Should "the Fashion" be needed here for any other purpose about that time, I should be pleased to have her ordered to carry this party of to N. Orleans, especially in the event of there being no steamer to take the place of the [[underlined]] Chas. L. Day [[/underlined]]- I would not, however, ask for the Fashion for this sole object as the delegates can go by sail vessel.

Very Respectfully
Your obt. servt.

Sir,
I shall in a short time send the delegation of Western Indians back to Arkansas. They have made known to the Florida Indians the State-Laws which incommode them, while here, and the liberal offers of the government to induce them to emigrate.

There is no prospect of a general emigration this

Spring-nor can the delegation do any thing more to hasten it.

A rigid enforcement of the Law against trade, and measures to restrain there more closely within there limits, are the only means, short of hostilities, that we have to affect them.

As a small number of the Florida Indians may accompany the delegation, I have the request that the Indian Department may, be called in to feed them for twelve months after their arrival at their new homes in the west - or if this is not convenient, that I may pay them the commutation for one year's subsistence. The last plan is very objectionable & I hope may not be necessary

Very Respectfully
