[[underline]] March 19.1949.[[/underline]] Sampson & I quit the trail & turn off E. to the "deadning" & on Pea river meet [[underline]] Chai & Polly [[/underline]]encamped.  His canoe bro't from Ch. Harbor is in river (near present site of Ft. Meade 1852-3) -  Reach new store creek this eve. and having my letter to Payne apptd april 15th for an interview [[strikethrough]] here[[/strikethrough]] [[insertion]] at Ch. Harbor [/insertion]] with Bowlegs etc I get off on

[[underline]] March 23d [[/underline]] at 12½ hr. reach home Ft. Brooke

[[underline]] April 7th.[[/underline]] Start for Ch. Harbor to meet Bowlegs - but have to return from Gadsden Pt. to repair boat

[[underline]] April 8th [[/underline]]Start again but on

[[underline]] April 9th [[/underline]] I have a slight hemmorhage and on

[[underline]] April 10th [[/underline]] Get back to Ft. Brooke, when Maj. M. declines sending [[underline]] Collins [[/underline]] to meet Billy with explanation-not deeming it of moment for any one but me to see him.

[[underline]] April 25th Morris [[/underline]] shows me a letter has written Bowlegs [[/underline]] in which he talks "indian" as "big father" "tomahawk etc and threaten largely. I object to it - & substitute another in plain english which he accepts.

April 27th  news of appointment of S.G. Spencer of Fla. as subagent Fla. Indians! a small atty of Jacksonville who was a "Taylor Elector", of Whip party, and who has [[?]] been stricken from the roll of [[underlined]] even [[/underlined]] Fla. attorneys for malpractice.

[[underlined]] May 21st [[/underlined Start for  new store (Choko Nikla Nor) to meet [[underlined]] Bowlegs [[/underlined]] by apptmt. & on 23d. reach the place

[[underlined]] May 24th [[/underlined]] Nelkup Hajo [80] in - has no news of Billy coming on 26th, his brother (y) F'uss Hojochee in for 27th [[underlined]] C.F.Chipko [[/underlined]] & Osauna Hajo & 5 or 6 more in - I tell C.F.C. that old Mikkonissa is dead & that I have a letter from Wild Cat for Billy & Sam Jones  The other indians are much excited & seem hostile when I tell this news to C.F.Chepko. on

[[underlined]] May 29th [[/underlined]] Get safely back to Tampa

[[underlined]] June 12th Col. [[/underlined]] Spencer Sub Agent in Tampa

[[underlined]] June 15th [[/underlined]] Spencer off before I could call on him.  He told Kennedy to prepare for a [[underlined]] new [[/underlined]] "Indian trader" He would be back here in Oct or Novr.

[[underlined]] June 20th [[/underlined]] Comdg. Offr. (Maj. Morris) propose to send Don Felipe Besmudez to see [[underlined]] Bowlegs [[/underlined]] - a good movement if Felipe dare go - but I learn he will only go with me Snell propose to go, if I go, & desires to open a store below.
