General,

In reply to yr inquiries of May 19 in relation to the U.S. Army [[?]] at Pakatka I have the honor to forward herewith a copy of an order (No. 5) dated Hd. Qr. Troops in Fla. Mar 8. 1852 and a copy of a letter just recd. from the a.a.a.G. in explanation.

The arrangement at Palatka is, I think, necessary and economical, and, had I been in possession of official information before, I should have reported it to you; but under present regulations and orders, I do not feel at liberty to inquire what order or arrangements are made in my Dept: by comdg. officers, unless when ordered to do so by higher authority

Very Respectfully
Your Obedt servt
