Says that while in the county he will visit all the schools, the school Benedick Chas. Co., where he understands there is trouble. Desires to be addressed at Prince Fredrick, Calvert Co. Md.

1.29.'70 #21 * | Bolling George. | Upper Marlb'h, Prince George's Co. Md. January 224th 1870. States that Miss Martha Douglass who was sent to them as teacher, has given full and ample satisfaction, and expresses the hopes that she may be allowed to remain.

2.4.70 | Bureau R. F. and A. L. | office Supt. Education, D. C. Washington Feb. 4, 1870  Respectfully forwarded to [[underlined]] J. W. Alvord,, [[/underlined]] Genl. Supt of Education. The Trustees of the Howard Normal School have made improvements and additions to the building, acting under an impression that the bills would be paid by this Bureau, derived from a paper given to [[underlined]] Mr. Janney [[/underlined]] by the Commissioner. I cannot see any other reason why the accounts should be approved.

2.4.70 #22 * | Bond Matilda Teacher | Brookville Montgomery Co. Md. February 1st 1870. States the increase of her school, and wishes an assistant for at least two mos. to be sent Monday. Says the people will furnish board willingly, and also states the receipt of the books.

2.8.'70 #23 * | Butler John H. Agent. | Mount Hope, Calvert Co. Md. February 1st 1870.  States condition of school good; number of pupils 87, and still they come. [[Quich?]] is fully restored. Meeting held at which the people fully evidenced their interest in what was being done for them. Five miles distants from M. H. the people are erecting a school house and church and need assistance. Stated he did not think they could be assisted otherwise than with teacher. Encloses communication dated 2 mo. 3d. Huntingtown, Calvert Co., in which he states the good condition of Miss Barker's school, together with other information.

2.23.70 #24 | Bureau R. F. and A. L. Rev. J. W. Alvord, Genl. Supt. Education E. B. 253 | Washington, D. C. February 23" 1870  Refers for recommendation of Supt. communication of [[underlined]] Rev. N. C. Brackertt [[/underlined]], Harper's Ferry W. Va., dated Feb. 9th, requesting an appropriation of $100.00 from December 1868, to be expended in payment of rents for buildings used by the normal dept. of the College. The school has been in operation two years: has five teachers and 150 pupils, &c &c.

February 5th 1870  States that he has visited the school at this place, and found things very uncomfortable, but has made everything right with the trustees: that there is some difficulty with the trustees and lumberman, but when he sees [[underlined]] Col. Bowling [[/underlined]] all will be settled, he thinks.
