6.8.70 #126 * | Brackett, Rev. N.C. | Harper's Ferry, W.Va.  June 3d 1870.  States that Mr. [[underlined]] Spratly [[/underlined]] has reported, and has been to Sandy Hook to see about opening the school, but the people think they cannot send their children and are not willing to board him.

6.10.70 #127 * | Brown, Gustavus | Oakville, St. Mary's Co. Md.  June 6th 1870.  States that they have moved part of the lumber from Chaptico and will move the rest soon:  that two of the trustees at Chaptico object to having it moved, as they have secured land on which to build.  But most of the people think the spot selected is not suitable and prefer to have the school continued in their church, &c.

6.11.70 #128 * | Butler, Richard  E.B.#283. Vol.1.1870. | Chaptico, St. Marys Co. Md.  June 17th 1870.  States that they have obtained a school lot for that place, and hope to be able to obtain the lumber already donated for the purpose of erecting a building.

States that he has tried, but has failed to start a school at Sandy Hook:  that if he had know of Mr. [[underlined]] Spratly's [[/underlined]] coming before he started, he would have advised that he be sent elsewhere.  Acknowledges receipt of letter of the 8th inst. and will reply to it.

7.21.70 #134 * | Brackett, Rev. N.C. | Harper's Ferry, W. Va.  July 16th 1870.  States in reply that he is about to leave Harpers Ferry, to return August 1st:  that Rev. [[underlined]] A.D. Williams [[/underlined]] is State Superintendent of Schools for W.Va., and his address is Charleston, Kanawha County.

7.25.70 #135 * | Bureau R.F. and A.L.  Genl. E. Whittlesey  A.A.A. General. | Washington, D.C.  July 20th 1870.  Directs that the Educational Division of this Bureau, embracing the District of Columbia, and the States of Md., Del. and W. Va, be closed on or before the 31st inst:  that the Superintendent will forward descriptions of all school buildings bourne on his returns with certified copies of the deeds of the building sites, and names of the trustees or parties holding the same:  that he will transfer to Bvt. Lt. Col. [[underlined]] J.M. Brown, [[/underlined]] C.Q.M., any building that may remain on his returns on the 31st inst., and report all unfinished buildings under contracts, &c. these duties completed he will make his final report, and forward all books, records, and stationery for file in the A.A.A. Genl. office.
