Dear Sir

You asked me to enquire into the case of the young man Davis I have done so and talked with both white and colored about his case and all say that the acusation was without foundation he was committed to prison without a hearing before a Magistrate or any hearing at all and would give him none. Mr Redman a white gentleman of respectability told me that he had served on juries and he never knew of a case where any person was casted in prison and kept months and no hearing in no way whatsoever. the people say that this woman and her husband was persuaded to do so by a white man named Wm Wilson who wanted to brake up the colored schools and now he is down here peniless and ready and willing to go to work if you will give
