Butler J. H.

States that he has visited and held meetings at Mount Pleasant, Chaptico, Lancaster's Wharf, and Peterwaxen:— that at the latter place ^[[insert]] the people [[/insert]] are desireous of having a school-house, and, if the lumber can be sent them, will put up the building without delay:— that there are about one hundred children who will attend the school, and that the names of the two leading men in the place are J. W. Dyson and J. D. Barnes:— that at the Newport he found ^[[insert]] that [[/insert]] the lumber which was sent for the house there had been landed fifteen miles below, and where no team can yet to it:— that the people at this place are very poor, and he told them he thought the Bureau would pay the expense of getting the lumber back if they would put up the building at once, which they have promised to do.
