Shepherdstown
April the 11th 1868

Mr Brubaker, 
Sir — your letter of the 10th relative to School matters is received, to which I reply as follows.— I opened the Colored School of District No. 2 in Shepherdstown April the 6, with 23 Scholars, and the prospect is, that the no- will soon be increased, — The School-house is not yet finished, but will answer evry purpose for a summer school — The Colored Peopple seem highly animated in bhalf of Education, and treat me cordially — while a portion of the white Peopple, treat me with contempt. Otherwise things are progressing finely.
