numerous school to pay me evan a living salary by special contribution, as is the sytem now. They are paying only what they feel themselves able to pay. Some are doing amazeingly well. They are giving $2,50 a month toward it. But others who have families are not willing, though equally able, to pay anything at all. It is altogether a matter of choice with them. They allowed to pay or not, or to pay as little or as much as they wish

But the case is so unevanly divided, and they are so very uncertain here, that I am afraid I shall not get through. I wrote you this morning Captain, and stated the matter in part to you then. I wish you would write to me soon if you cannot come over, but come over if you can. I am very respectfully Yours &c.
