Sir

While on a visit in West Va a few days Since I made the acquaintance of Dr J. F. Caldwell of Lewisburg.

When I left on my return for Washington he charged me with the following Commission to Genl Howard -

"Say to General Howard Supt of Freedmens Bureau that the Freedmen here have bargained to purchase a stone house well suited for their Schoolhouse owned by the Masons, forty ft square, two stories high, and have raised $100 towards paying for it.
