Dear Kimball

A letter of yours to Mr Core now lies before me in which you ask him [[?]] whether he has used the name or influence of the Bureau in favor of the Bond party.  I know no such party:  but I want to opine you that I have no knowledge of any such conduct as you indicate on his part.  I do know however that a certain Major Van-derlip whom your bureau sent to Worcester County about bounties or something else did while over there use both his time
