Dear Sir:
Having learned with regret that Mr Johnson, our teacher at this place has been ordered away & will leave to morrow I take the liberty of troubling you with a few lines in his and our behalf.
Mr Johnson suits us as a teacher in every respect his attention to his scholars as a proof of it they are learning rapidly he devotes his whole time to his school both night and day, giving those who cannot attend in the day an opportunity of doing so at night, he visits the sick & those in need, has their wants attended to as far as he is able.  Conducts himself as a gentleman, teaches harmony, peace & good will between all classes.  In every respect he is the friend, adviser & will wisher of the colored people of Pattonsburg
