is destitute of furniture except the desks. the chimney is unfinished & appears to contain a great quantity of waters which is constantly dropping & being of the inky blackness from the sort renders it very disagreeable, as well as being the ruin of every thing that comes in contact with it. The stove & pipe are mere apologies [[strikethrough]] for [[/strikethrough]] & it at times al [[strikethrough]] l [[/strikethrough]] most blind us with smoke, & when the weather is cold we suffer intensly.

The money for board was raised by taxing the day scholars 15c apiece & night, 12 1/2c. last month but I beleive the trustees have raised the day pupils fee to 25c, & night to 15. David Earl is the principal trustee, & as near as I can learn I think Mr Jno T. Dowell
