Buckhannon, Upshire Co. W. Va.
Dec. 23rd 1868.

Cooper, Jackman
Secy. Bd. Ed.

States in reply to letter of the 19th inst. that they have no deed for lot on which colored school house is erected, but the owner is willing it should be used for this purpose free of cost. Encloses copy of article for the lot.

States that there is no school in operation as they have no money to pay teacher; that it took more money to pay the teacher who taught last than belonged to the fund for colored children, and they were disappointed in getting the $20.00 per month from the Bureau; that without aid from some source they must wait until the taxes for that purpose accumulate &c.
