much trouble in reaching them, we thought best not to try it this year, excepting in the case of Mrs Knight who returned us funds for goods sold to her Industrial Class. We send her a nice box of goods to be made up, & put a lot of Christmas toys, candy &c in her box,

States that he learns [[underlined]] J. W. Somers [[/underlined]] who was to go from Leasburg, N. C. to Dames Quarter has broken his arm and will not be able to travel for a few days; that he is very glad to hear so good a report from their Maryland schools &c.  

that they are about sending a Christmas box to each of their teachers in the South, and regret that they cannot reach their Maryland teachers, &c.
