West River June 23rd 1869

Riv [[sic:Rev]] John Kimball

Dear sir
We the undersigned trustees of the Oakland school located in West River and under the charge of Miss Mary Cornish, have learned with regret that
she is to be removed and a [[underlined]] Male [[/underlined]] teacher sent to us to take charge of our school

Now we would most respectfully ask you to continue her in this place as she has so far done her duty by the pupils and people and all classes both white and coloured ^[[insert]] are pleased by her cours [/insert]] and by her strect attention to her duty have allayed all prijudices her Lady like deportment have endeared her to all and we fear that if a change is made we will not get on as well in future as in the past at all events we do most earnestly request a Female teacher as there are a number of Large Girls attending our school and a male teacher (no matter how correct) would be out of place
