Olney, Montgomery Co., Md.
March 6th, 1868.

Rev. John Kimball,

Dear Sir,

Your letter and [[underlined]] "Manual of the Vanguard of Freedom" [[/underlined]] are received. I like the plan; and at as early a date as practical shall do all in my powers to establish a "Division" here. But, our friend Mr. Brooke concurs with me in thinking, that there are [[underlined]] three [[/underlined]] reasons why I should not initiate any movement toward it now.

1st, my pupils are not yet able to read well enough to conduct the service.

2nd, The present would be an unpropitious season of the year.
