Rev. John Kimball,

Dear Sir,
Mr. Dyson called yesterday with Mr. James Wright who thinks he would like a situation as teacher.  Mr. Wright is but nineteen years old and never has taught.

He wished me to test his scholarship so I asked him a few questions and found him deficient in some respects.

He reads and spells very well, and thinks himself pretty good in arithmetic.  I presume he can perform pretty well but does not explain well. He says he attended a grammar school [[strikethrough]] three [[/strikethrough]]
