On Wed - July - 20, the Hodges came with Mr Nusbaum to see and admire the paintings. It was a long hard day with many problems to be solved. Lewis Riley took photographs of the boys. At the Hodge lecture Mrs Sloan asked for photos & publicity material - 

Thursday - preparation for the opening at 8:30. [[strikethrough]] Mary Wheelright's [[/strikethrough]] Baboses came to lunch. Mrs Rhodes came to help straighten out knotty problems - went to see Miss White - Buffalo it seems wants murals by Indians. A regular school pageant had been prepared by the teachers in honor of Mr Rhodes - & was to be given in our beautiful new dining room - also watermelons & ice cream to be served there - Dances by Hobeah & Riley & Richard were to be done around bonfire outside. The American pageant and the children's refreshments were shifted to 4:30 in the afternoon, Mr. Faris & Mrs May are simply splendid in their cooperation and [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] made this difficult adjustment with all the kindness in the world. Rude & raw I had said our guests would run from it & would say that such had no place in the Indian school anyway [[strikethrough]] since [[/strikethrough]] as Indians are masters of Pageantry - 

Crowds of people came. Dancing brilliant but all Kiowa, whereas pueblo also had been asked & looked for - Many Indians came - Maria & Santiago etc - Julian & Agwa Pi busy with their admirers. The whole world enthusiastic and surprised. Mr & Mrs Ferris pleased [[inserted]]congratulated,[[/inserted]] and honored on all sides. Miss Marmon Uliss Chaulu & another girl in dances which were held in dining room- on dancers choice- [[strikethrough]][[?]][[/strikethrough]]Wick Willu keen to talk, Reporters all about. Quite brilliant evening- if somewhat haphazard and,     ice cream later with [[inserted]]Bakosia, Louvay and [[/inserted]] reporters from N. Mexican & Asso. Press- (Scotty & Brill) then, at home at eleven [[inserted]] P.M. [[/inserted]] met by appointment Greenbut & Walton- the latter to get notes for Times supplement-

Fri- Mary Wheelwright says "pooh" to all worries, but grand triumph & away she went to Navajo country after more legend material. She says keep Paul Tsosie & drop all other Navajo boys- as he "knows his stuff." Romondo & Richard keen to get the big panel I hall. "But don't you want to rest awhile & then return if Toneta Pena doesn't come?" "We don't want to rest, and she will not come." "She might, and your crops need you." "The grasshoppers have eaten everything, we want to work here." Then if you do it will you be willing to paint animals all over it as Mr Ferris desires?
