the Sloans came - also E. White and Mrs. Franklin K. Lane and the Rohodeses again.  Sloans liked it mostly, but John s. loud in denunciation of Kiowas and the white man who them promiscuous European drawing.  but see the great Sun Symbol - yes that is fine - it does not show the bad influence - but those men in red! Sate - Mrs. Lane asked me to tea about exhibits for State at World's Fair p what could be done on a shoestring as no funds anywhere and Chicago charges for space.  Mr. May and Mr. Ferris had laid plans for Gallup Ceremonial and we had been working out scheme for that of panels of Beaver board decorated, to form room 20 ft  40 ft - and I suggest this thing be sent on to Chief form Gallup.  Mrs. L. thinks well of it.

Teas at Miss Howlands - Louise says I use all teas for conferences to further our plans.  there Mr. Chapman discussed at length this question ^[[of]]the Indians teaching design and crafts & says it will come to that eventually.  but why not now?  He says Indians had to manage as teachers. Has worked much with Julian. Was interested to hear of his [[strikethrough]]teach[[/strikethrough]]instruction to younger men ^[[and his correcting their drawings]]- and hopes to come in when he is there again. Had a thrill to hear Alice Corbin's hearty praise. But reaction has set in.  Are told today that we are demoralizing the Indians - Now they will be degrading their art and doing indifference things all over walls everywhere - barber shops.
