But imagine an Anglo in Velino's shoes. For a pleasant drive today we went out to Seton Village and finding the place deserted, learned the entire Thompson Seton tribe had gone to a dance at San Ildefonso. The Village Parrot had become a nuisance and was presented to San Ildefonso and [[strikethrough]] as a royal reward [[/strikethrough]] the dance was given as reward for the prized feathers the bird wore. Was this the cause of the call to our painters? 

Monday - Aug 15 - Basilio of Tesuque posed for my private class today - in the portal - my old friend Basilio who is still as enigmatic as the sphinx. 

Mr [[blank]] Barr, director of Art in University of N.D. and Mrs Barr came and saw my work & I showed them the photos of the Indian murals but they were not greatly interested - I suggested they use some of their day [[strikethrough]] here [[/strikethrough]] in Santa Fe seeing the originals but they were pressed for time - In the end they went and were more than repaid - were grateful - would not have missed it. Are planning to help me get Sioux Indian murals done in the new N.D. State House and we talked it during luncheon at La Fonda and again at home. The Sioux who paint glorious horses on hides! [[strikethrough]] Ogwa Pi [[/strikethrough]] Velino was at the piano when we came into the chapel where the painting is now being done, and beside him [[strikethrough]] stood [[/strikethrough]] the tall thin figure of Ogwa Pi. And O.P. had sketched in charcoal a divine beginning on a small panel.

Tues. Aug. 16 - I came to the chapel to find even on Tuesday only the two, Velino & Ogwa Pi working. Romando & Richard have not returned? "No, they come Thursday." "Thursday" I groaned. The workings of communication are as relentless as the wide skies when the rain will not come. And where are the Navajos, [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] Tsosie & Edward? Both were toling at mechanical jobs, the welcome news that they were wanted for the painting not having reached them [[strikethrough]] no doubt [[/strikethrough]] through a misunderstanding. Edward a bit sullen - enquired if Alex - was to paint. No but we are glad to have you if you can come. "I will not have time to finish" but he came and we found a good place in the light for his panel.
