Thurs. Aug. 18. When any of the paintings begin to take on a Pale-face look [[strikethrough]] I see only [[/strikethrough]] something around my heart seems to collapse, and often I turn & walk out of the chapel without a word. But today when I saw or possibly imagined that Velino's buffalo hunt was getting the look, I cautioned - Paint Indian Valino don't paint our way. Use your design in your own good Indian way that you know so well - and make your animals Indian - they will then go beautifully with your cloud and rainbow designs that you are using above and below. A day or two ago Velino said "I remember your buffalo stampede and he indicated the size and shape of my large water color that used to hang in the Santa Fe Museum before it was sold to Henry Stevens - Just how to veer him away from it without hurting a sensitive soul - Heaven guide me!

The panels are more like work [[strikethrough]] to our Indians [[/strikethrough]] - They haven't the thrill of solid walls. Walls - that inside - or outside of buildings - Oh for walls - many, large, solid walls to paint!

We plan, with carpenters and carvers for the frames [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] with which to set these panels together in Gallup. We plan the trip to Gallup next Monday. Ms Rush runs in elated, with [[strikethrough]] news [[/strikethrough]] the telegram that our boys are to dance at Gallup.

Now we are told that our San Ildefonso men [[underlined]] may [[/underlined]] come on Friday. A council is being held in the Pueblo! So that is it.

[[underlined]] Fri. Aug. 19. [[/underlined]] Exaggerated perspective in the Buffalo made a little talk on murals necessary, and since correction the panel looks far more [[strikethrough]] normal [[/strikethrough]] Indian as well as more decorative. I would like even less perspective than it has now - but [[strikethrough]] dislike [[/strikethrough]] feel that a critical attitude from another race is upsetting [[strikethrough]] to them [[/strikethrough]] I do not want them to try to please me. That they weight spaces most carefully was proven again today, [[strikethrough]] by [[/strikethrough]] when Velino pondered and studied his canvas long between every stroke in making his changes. As usual, the stroke itself was made in a moments time and seldom altered. This is their habitual method of working.
