By statute appointments to the Commission are made by resolution of the Board of Regents, and it was 

VOTED that the Board of Regents appoints Mr. R. Crosby Kemper and Mr. David S. Purvis to a four-year term as members of the National Museum of American Art Commission.

[[underlined]] Cooper-Hewitt Museum Proposal to Name a Gallery [[/underlined]]

Mr. Arthur Ross, member of the Cooper-Hewitt Council, president of the Cenro Corporation, and frequent supporter of the Museum's exhibition program, has pledged a seminal $500,000 toward the capital fund drive which is targeted to raise $20 Million for a new wing at the Cooper-Hewitt.  It was 

VOTED that the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution recognizes the extraordinarily generous gift of Mr. Arthur Ross toward the capital costs of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum's proposed new wing, and is pleased that he or his trustees will be involved in selecting a gallery in the new facility to bear his name.

[[underline]] Honor for the Secretary from the Japanese Government [[/underline]]

The Secretary was awarded the Second Class of the Order of the Sacred Treasure by the Government of Japan in a ceremony at the Embassy in Washington on December 3, 1982.  The Regents congratulated the Secretary for his receipt of this honor.
