[[underlined]] Cooper-Hewitt Museum Proposal to Name a Gallery [[/underlined]]

Mr. Ripley reported that last month Mr. Arthur Ross, member of the Cooper-Hewitt Council, president of the Manhattan-based Cenro Corporation, and frequent contributor in support of the Museum's exhibition program, pledged $500,000 toward the capital fund-drive which is targeted to raise $20 million for the construction of a new wing at the Museum. Toward his pledge, Mr. Ross has already contributed $250,000 in cash and shares of Cenro stock.

In making this pledge Mr. Ross expressed his hope that, when the architectural plans for the building extension are completed, an appropriate area of the new facility could be named in his honor. The Secretary believed that this extremely generous benefaction, which represents the first major contribution to the capital fund-raising campaign, deserves such recognition.

Accordingly, the following resolution was approved:

VOTED that the Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution recognizes the extraordinarily generous gift of Mr. Arthur Ross toward the capital costs of the new Cooper-Hewitt Museum's proposed new wing, and is pleased that he or his trustees will be involved in selecting a gallery in the new facility to bear his name.
