disseminating program information and recruiting for internships and fellowships with a great deal of success; a number of visitors to the Smithsonian, both interns and fellows, have also held these NSF or Ford Foundation fellowships. Publicity about fellowships and internships has been placed in [[underlined]]The[[/underlined]] [[underlined]]Black[[/underlined]] [[underlined]]Collegian[[/underlined]], a national publication, and the [[underlined]]National[[/underlined]] [[underlined]]Minority[[/underlined]] [[underlined]]Campus[[/underlined]] [[underlined]]Chronicle[[/underlined]].
 
Efforts are now underway to locate, and improve our contacts with, the institutions and associations representing Native American, Hispanic and other minority scholars and students. 

[[underlined]]Outreach Programs[[/underlined]]

The Institution recognizes the critical need to reach out to minority and women communities, groups and organizations. Outreach programs goals are presently met through exhibitions, outreach messages in appropriate media, and association and participation with predominantly minority and women's colleges, universities, junior and senior high schools and with minority and women's groups, organizations and associations. In this way the Institution reaches several hundreds of thousands of minorities and women.
 
In 1982 outreach messages about the Institution were placed in minority publications of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Justice, Unity, Generosity, and Service (JUGS). The JUGS organization is a non-profit, charitable organization aimed at providing a variety of community based services to families, individuals, and minority groups. Messages placed in these publications are
