Sir:-

I have the honor to request that I may be supplied, for use in the Osteological Section of the Museum, with twenty-five jars, of either earthen ware or glass, ranging in size from one gallon to eight, say - 2 of 1 gal; 2 of 2 gals; 2 of 3 gals; 4 of 4 gals; 10 of 5 gals; and 5 of eight gallons; These jars to be used for the purpose of macerating birds and small mammals that are continually being sent to the Museum. Wooden or metal receptacles will not answer as such vessels are bound to discolor the bones during the process.

During the last three days, I have had turned over to me, 3 fresh specimens of birds
