[[preprinted]] Hotel Statler Buffalo [[\preprinted]]

March 28th 1950

Dear Grace and Family:

Your letter of the 23rd, reached us yesterday. I call that good mail service. I returned to the coast last month and had no more than gotten a deep breath when Warner Bros sent me seat to obtain releases for them

I ahve them all but one, and that is Louis Tewamami, the Hopi runner who when tot he 1912 olympics with Jim. T looated him by long distance, after calling all over the country, in the Hopi Indian reservation at Keames Canyon Arizona, just outside Ludlow. The poor guy is up there herding sheep and cannot speak English. I tried to talk through an interperter but that was no good, so I sent him the releases in care of the Indian office, he refuses to sign. He is afraid of the white mans legal terms I suppose, and I do not blame him. So I must on my return trip, get off the train at Ludlow, hire a taxi and go up in to the reservation, run him down and try to make him understand what it is all about. Pray for me.

Jim is in Syracuse, I signed him for two months managing an Indian Wrestler named War Cloud, $500.00 a week and expenses, for Jim. He must go to the coast the first of June to act as technical adviser on his life story.

I have been fighting with Warner Bros. almost a year, just about the time I feel a little good toward them they pull another phony on me and I blow my cork again. I amde the statement, idly, that I was going to make a million dollars for Jim, to an A.P. man in Manhattan, the so and so put it over an A.P. release and it went all over the country. Now I've got to do it.

Jim comes back east to Philadelphia, in a public relations capacity, with the Philadelphia Eagles, who are the champions of the National Pro League.

I ahve been determoned to get Jim back into the limelight and damned if I hav'nt made it. But I work on it 24 hours a day. I have literally kicked the doors in all over the country and Jim Thorpe will be the greatest thing in the Sports world from now on. Of course you know how lazy he is, I have to dynamite him every so often and ride herd on him constantly.

I know he will be happy to learn you are returning to the States. How ever, things are getting a bit tough in the employment line. Have your husband all lined up with a job before you sever relations there. I would'nt live in California again if they gave me the entire state. I detest the phonies out there.

I am staying over for the March of Champions, here in Buffalo the night of the 31st, I leave the next day for my treck westward and Tewamami. Mail address to Jim, here, or the Bellvue Stratford, Philadelphia will always reach him. A permanent mailing address of 5162 Melrose Ave, Hollywood Melrose Hotel is ok too. A dear friend of ours owns the hotel.

That is about all for now my dear. I too shall be very glad to know you and your lovely family.

With all of our best to you and yours, I am fondly,
