[[underline]] Regents' Dinner [[/underline]]

The traditional Regents' Dinner was held in the Arts and Industries Building on Sunday evening, September 18, 1983. After dinner the Secretary greeted the Regents and invited guests and introduced the Chancellor, who welcomed the new Regents, Senator Sasser and Mrs. Clark. Mr. Ripley then presented the Secretary's Gold Medal for Exceptional Service to the Treasurer, Christian C. Hohenlohe, and read the following citation:

CHRISTIAN C. HOHENLOHE

came to the Smithsonian in 1971 as Executive Assistant to the Secretary, moving on in 1973 to become Assistant to the Treasurer and then Assistant Treasurer. As Treasurer of the Institution since 1979 he has directed our investment, accounting, and auxiliary activities with exemplary thoughtfulness and outstanding achievement.

In over twelve years of dedication to the Smithsonian, Chris, you have consistently exercised able judgment, rendered invaluable counsel, and adhered lovingly to the ideals of James Smithson's trust. In grateful recognition of your having been a [[underline]] Treasure [[/underline]] to this Institution, your friends here join in presenting the Secretary's Gold Medal for Exceptional Service.
