Princes Anne Somerset County Md.
June 22d 1869.

Mr. Kimball

Dear Sir.
I received a commission on Thursday the 16, to take a school at this place; the 21st of the month being the time for me to open school, I left the University on Friday in order that I would be at the place in ample time. I arrived here Saturday & reported to Mr. John. W. Mc Grath, as directed, & he seemed to be surprised at my coming so soon; he said that he had written to you saying that he would not be ready for a teacher ^[[insert]] before [[/insert]] next week, therefore he did ^[[insert]] not [[/insert]] make any preparation for me. Mr. Kelly has the school in charge & he was surprised at my coming here, he said that he knew nothing about it, & supposed that he would have the refusal of the school. This being the state of affairs here, I am placed in a embarrassing predicament. As my commission stated that I should commence on the 21st I took it for granted that there was no school going on here, & receiving no other infirmation, I supposed that it was all right. Mr Kendll, I want to teach, & do all I can for the good of the people, but I am dissatisfied with the state of procedure here.

Please answer this as soon as possible inforing me what to do. I would be glad if you can get me another place, if there is another near here. Two of our students that gave their names in, Mr. Morris & Hall, have given up the idea of teaching this summer, & have gone home; if you have gotten a place for either of them down this way I would be happy to get it. Yours very truly
