Reports receipt of letter of Jan'y. 25th, and states that [[underlined]] Mr. Nodine [[/underlined]] is mistaken about [[strikethrough]] wri [[/strikethrough]] his "writing that school house has been built &c."  Makes explanation in regard to reports and mentions the different schools now in operation.  Reports difficulties in the way of the completion of school house, and opposition to his continuing as teacher, which is inspired by the "rebel" element.  Asks to be directed how to proceed in case of further

[[further]] trouble.  States that the 170 scholars in Charleston require capable white teacher, but that the school authorities prefer Colored to white teachers without regard to qualifications.  Reports himself sick for past few days.
