Leonardtown Md.
July 13th 1870

Maj. W. L. Vanderlip

Dear Sir,
Yours of 11th is at hand. The trusees of the Chaptico School district hauled up the windows nails doors &c and a very few boards soon after the lumber was landed. After the rest had lain on the shore a year and they said they could not get teams to haul it I employed a man to haul it for which the Bureau paid him $25.00.

The lumber has lain there since unused of which you are well aware. In my opinion if any one has more to pay the trustees should pay the damage the lumber has sustained by their failing to make use of it.

I go to Washington Sunday by the steamer Columbia and may go out to your place

Yours Very Respectfully
