Boston Sept. 2, 1865

John Kimball Esq. Supt.

Dear Sir,
Since receiving your letter of Aug. 26 I have made inquiries about school furniture. There is a lot of desks here which came from the city school-houses & which have been placed at the disposal of our Society by a gentleman who bought them at a low price. A large number of the same have already been sent to Washington for colored schools. Please let me know how many you will need, and whether there is any way of getting them transported at Govt. expense. Vessels in Govt. employ very rarely go from here to Washn & they would have to go by some private vessel.

Yours very respy.

Transcription Notes:
There are two marks which look like half a + or t, I don't know what they are and left them as a ? Good job of transcribing! What looks like a "+" or "t" is an "and" symbol, so use "&."
