Alexandria Va. Oct 28 1865 Chap John Kimbball Sup Schools Bureau Freedmen &c District of Columbia Dear Sir I was present ^[[insert]] last evening [[/insert]] at the Bureau in this city while talking about school rooms &c Chap [[??]] sup. 5 district Virginia talked of assigning to Miss Owen two of the Barracks at La Ouverture hospital beside the one I had selected for my school. Now it being of no use to demur here I appeal to you. As a friend of the cause of education among the Freedmen I object to her having any ^[[insert]] High [[/insert]] School room of the Building, for various reasons, among which I will name. First she does not give either time energy or thought enough to the business to be useful as a Teacher. Second Her reputation is so notoriously bad that it is a disgrace to the cause we are engaged in to continue her in the business Now in evidence of the last I will just say that her school room & her Quarters are known to have
