To the Secretary of the "Board of Examiners for Teachers for Freedmen,"
Washington, D.C.,

Dear Sir,
Being a Common School Teacher of several years experience, and having the best testimonials, and also being desirous of going South to teach the Freedmen, providing the inducements are sufficiently liberal, I crave the privilege of soliciting information from you, respecting salaries; qualifications; parts of the South where required to teach; probable travelling expenses from Washington to place of teaching; parties to whom application should be made for situations; and whether teachers are employed for the whole year. If there is great demand for teachers I think I could induce a number to go.

I might state it is my intention to become a citizen of the United States. Please answer by return mail and address.

Your very humble Servant,
