Friend Kimball

I called at the Freedmans Bureau Cor Pa Av & 19th St this afternoon to see you, having been told by a lady friend (who is a contraband school ma'am) that your office was there. To my disappointment however I not only did not find you, but was told by an officer that you were not know there! I explained to him that you were "Superintendent of Colored Schools" under the Freedmans Bureau, but he persisted in declaring that he had never heard of you, and advised me to inquire for you at some of the schools.

I thought it better to try and reach you through the mail.

Some time since I received letters from some friends in Lisbon NH who want to procure five or six colored girls between the ages of 18 & 25, to go into their families as servants — They promise them good pay and kind treatment, and of course want girls of some experience and ability. In case they could be obtained some one will come on to accompany them north, pay their fare &c. My object in seeking you was to obtain advice
