who are too poor to purchase them while in the case of others we would wish wish them to pay at least the cost of them. If any schools desired to change the books they have for them, & required that it be done without expense to the pupils, we would be willing to donate a sufficient number for that purpose.

If you will give me the information I desire in regard to this matter, I will be very much obliged.

I am happy to say that our work in this direction has the warm approbation of Maj. Gen. Howard, Commissioner of the Freedmen's Bureau.
