Respected Friend
Thy letter containing the information resp. the Govt. buildings just recd. It will be impossible for us to be on hand at the sale, but in view of the great importance of having such houses erected at suitable places I feel like venturing to buy the houses (the four) believing that the Com will ratify my action. Relying therefore upon your combined good judgment as to the character & worth of the buildings, and upon your promise that the freedmen will remove them to suitable places I hereby authorize you to secure at the sale the four buildings most suitable for our purposes at a
