Dear Sir:-  In answer to your favor of the 25th ult., which has just come into my hands, I am sorry to say that the state of our treasury does not allow us to incur expense for instruction in music by a teacher of that art alone. The Senators, and other influential gentlemen, who recommend the lady in question, might combine for her support in the capacity which they suggest she would have every facility for training the musical tastes of the pupils in our schools.
