Sir,
I respectfully ask that Mr Rumsey be employed to make one hundred and fifty double desks & seats at a cost for each desk & seat of two dollars and seventy cents. He agreeing to furnish all the lumber & nails and other hard ware, and to place them in the school where they are to be used, on M St bet 16" & 17" Sts. And to do the work in a satisfactory manner. I have the honor to state that if the Bureau will pay two dollars for each desk & seat, the amount of cost of lumber & nails, that the Trustees of Colored Schools have promised to pay seventy cents for each desk & seat, the cost of making.
