there to have parochial charge of the people who attend or sustain that school. But we cannot do that if other denominations come in to distract & divide the people.

The difficulties of the last year have been aggrivated by these things. We did not feel justified in expending money to fit up the house not knowing how soon we would have to give it up. And we could not get teachers of the right sort to remain there with so poor accommodations. I can get a most excellent teacher for the coming year & will be glad to put her there as head teacher

The Walks have done well & so did Coal. We were very sorry Coal could not be induced to remain.

I will see that the school is closed in Auguest as you desire. And will do all I can to put it on succesful footing as soon as possible. I am seeking to interest the Presbyterian people of Washington in Capitol Hill as a mission.

I am most respectfuly yours &c
