Traveller office
Boston, Jan. 25th

Dear Sir — I arrived safely at home after passing through some perils by storm, and have prepared a hasty sketch of what I saw of the Freedmen at Washington, and send you a few copies of the Traveller containing it.

Will you give a copy each — if not too much trouble — to Gen. Howard, Rev. J. W. Alvord and Mr. A. E. Newton, and two to Gen Brown of the Mission ^[[insert]] Sabbath [[/insert]] School (one of them for a colored teacher of the School whose name I did not learn — Gen. B will know him.)

With thanks for your courtesies, and well-wishes for the colored men and colored children of Washington, I beg leave to subscribe myself

Sincerely yours
